Breeders’ Cup Betting - Curlin Has First Work over Pro-Ride Surface

On Monday, October 6th, the reigning horse of the year, and America’s richest horse in the history of thoroughbred racing, Breeders’ Cup Classic.
For online Big Brown, Casino Drive and possibly Duke of Marmalade in the Classic.
Because of his win in the Jockey Gold Cup two weeks ago, Curlin is America’s leading earner in North America, passing the venerable Cigar. A victory in the Breeders’ Cup Classic would prove his greatness. Put that victory next to wins in the Preakness Stakes, last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic, and this year’s Dubai World Cup and all of a sudden Curlin becomes one of the top ten horses to ever step onto a racetrack.
That’s all well and good but what BetUS online racebook fans want to know is whether or not today’s work clued us in as to how Curlin will run on October 25th. In particular, online racebook fans want to know if the work provided insight as to Curlin’s chances at + 130 in the BetUS online racebook to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Let’s take a look.
Curlin worked four furlongs, which equates to a half mile, in 52.80 seconds. How slow is that? It’s incredibly slow and if this were Curlin’s third work before the Breeders’ Cup Classic and not his first work, then I’d have to say that Curlin isn’t ready to run against the likes of Big Brown and Duke of Marmalade.
But this was Curlin’s first work. Visually, Curlin looked like Curlin. The horse is incredibly big. He’s strong and fast and he glides over the ground as if he were swimming in air. That’s the impression I got after watching the work. The horse is holding an incredible amount of flesh which is another reason for online racebook fans to consider making a wager on Curlin at + 130 in the BetUS online sportsbook.
The work told us very littler other than that Curlin doesn’t dislike the Pro-Ride surface. What trainer Steve Asmussen said after the work actually gave online racebook betting fans a much bigger clue as to whether or not Curlin is a good horse bet, at this time, to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
“We’re going to let the horse tell us whether or not he likes the surface,” Asmussen is quoted as saying.
Okay, that helps. Sort of. Curlin can’t really talk. By watching his work today, it appears that he doesn’t dislike the surface, but that’s not the same as saying that he absolutely loves the Pro-Ride surface.
Don’t fret online racebook fans. It doesn’t mean much at this point. Curlin’s online betting odds shouldn’t drop to below the + 130 that the BetUS online racebook is currently offering.
Curlin is scheduled for his second work over the Pro-Ride surface next Monday. He should go faster in that work.
If he does, then the + 130 on this Greek God of a horse might be overlaid online betting odds.
