Horse Racing Betting: Big Plays from Aqueduct

While St. Patrick’s Day generally means drinking green beer and breaking out the worst green shirt in the closet, this Irishman will spend much of the day trying to earn green, as in money.
The key to the day at Aqueduct may come down to the eighth race, the middle leg of our Pick 3 ticket.
The morning line favorite is Out of Respect, who figures to be the overwhelming favorite in the race. The gelding went gate to wire to beat New York bred first level allowance company in a good looking score.
However, he appeared to be aided by a strong inside speed bias that day, in which seven of the nine races on the card were won by horses going gate to wire.
I am going to use him in my Pick 3 ticket, but there are three in the race that are going to offer more value, and if we can beat him with one of our longshots, we should be able to buy plenty of green beer at Happy Hour today.
Today's Play of the Day from Aqueduct:
AQU Race 5 Alw $42,000N1X (2:56 ET)
#7 Purrfect Bluff 5/2
#4 Credit Limit 4/1
#5 French Dip 7/2
#1 Rock Hall Honey 6/1
Analysis: #7 Purrfect Bluff pressed the early pace, opened up a clear lead heading for home, and could not hold off the winner late, coming up a head shy of the top spot. The winner was Kissa Melissa, who came back to beat Alw-2 optional claimers in her next outing on Mar. 12. The mare owns a solid pace profile throughout and Ramon takes back over the riding duties. The top jock was board her for her last win when she beat $50K claimers four back.
#4 Credit Limit beat $50K starter allowance foes last out, defeating three runners she faces again today. She has run well fresh and fits well in this spot.

Today’s Pick 3 Play from Aqueduct:

AQU Race 7 Clm $15,000N2L (3:56 ET)
#7 Blue Ridge Etoile, #8 Doris D., #6 Tom and Dicks Girl
#7 Blue Ridge Etoile caught a sloppy track last out in her local debut after shipping in from the bayou for a sharp outfit in the House barn. The filly was competitive two and three back against non winners of two at Delta, and while those might not be as tough as she faces here, she should appreciate the stretch out to two turns and a fast track. Worth a look at decent odds in this spot.
#8 Doris D. drops in for a tag for the first time here after a fourth place finish facing state bred Alw-1 company last out. Her last pair of speed figs are tops in here and she looks primed for a good effort here in her third start of her current form cycle. The barn and jock have been cold at the meet and the price may end up on the short side.

AQU Race 8 OClm $25,000N2X (4:25 ET)
#3 Temore, #1 The Truffle Man / #1a Gold Vendetta, #6 Monte Carlo, #4 Out of Respect
#3 Temore beat Alw-1 state breds last out and was one of the few runners on that card that made up any ground. The racing surface was strongly speed favoring that day, seven going gate to wire. The gelding should see some pace in front of him and figures to get overlooked at the windows in this spot.
#1 The Truffle Man returns off a two month break here for the Jacobson barn. Last out he tracked the early pace and faded to finish sixth at this condition. Two back against open Alw-1 foes he ran a decent third behind a couple of next out winners and three back pressed the pace and weakened to fourth in another key race for a $50K tag. The freshening should do him some good and he won at this condition last June by 9 1/4 lengths.
#4 Out of Respect earned the top last out speed fig but did it aided by a strong inside speed bias. He just might be the underlay of the day.
AQU Race 9 Md $35,000 (4:55 ET)
#10 Spiritual Tune, #4 My Sweet Emily
#10 Spiritual Tune pressed the early pacesetter and faded to finish a well beaten fourth last out off a 3 1/2 month break. Now the filly drops in for a tag for the first time and it is encouraging to see Migs stick for another go. The Barker barn has been sending out live runners at the meet at some decent prices and we should catch one here.
#4 My Sweet Emily set the early fractions and tired to finish sixth as the beaten fav when stretching out to a route. She caught an inner track that was favoring outside stalkers and closers. She is back sprinting here with blinkers added to the mix. She is out of the stakes winner Kiss Me Twice ($146K) who has dropped one other foal to race, Regrettable Romance ($101K).
