Padding Your Bankroll on Friday November 21

Bookmark and Share by Michael Dempsey

National racebook horse racing handicapper Michael Dempsey will attempt to pad his bankroll and yours with his daily column. He will feature at least one Pick 3 or Pick 4 play from a major track along with coverage of major stakes races, longshots, and he will keep you up to date on what is happening on the circuits he covers.

What is the Big A without a little snow?

We might see s few snow flurries this afternoon in New York, but that should not slow us down much as we attempt to pad our bankroll.

However, we should keep an eye on the weather as there are three races scheduled for the turf today.

I am assuming we are not going to see enough snow to force those races to the main track.

Today’s play of the day is a cheap claimer, and we are going against the short priced entry for the top spot. The Late Pick 3 play has a couple of longshots in the sequence, and could end our day on a positive note.

Today's Play of the Day from Aqueduct:

AQU Race 2 Md $25,000 (12:56 et)

#7 Private Citizen 7/2

#6 Quietly Bold 3/1

#1 Head Shot / #1a Truly Divine 8/5

#3 Stormy Stella 6/1

Analysis: #7 Private Citizen was not a threat in her debut, checking in ninth going six furlongs on turf. Former Pletcher assistant Benzel has not had his firsters fully cranked and they tend to show improvement second time out. The filly drops from $75K to $25K and tries the main track here. The filly is by Proud Citizen out of a Sky Classic mare that has dropped four other foals to race, three winners including stakes winner Wait It Out ($219K). I'm expecting to see this gal move forward facing easier company with the surface switch.

#6 Quietly Bold drops out of a maiden special weight race on the turf at the Spa where she was a well beaten seventh. She took some play in the race, sent off at 5/2 in a field of eight. She is by a win early barn in Hushion and the easier company here should put her in the mix. She is by El Prado out of the stakes winner India Divina ($312K), who has dropped three other foals to race, a pair of winners, top earner Everydayissaturday ($132K).

Wagering

WIN: #7 to win at 5/2 or better.

EX: 6,7 / 1,3,6,7

TRI: 6,7 / 1,3,6,7 / 1,3,5,6,7

Today’s Pick 3 Play from Aqueduct:

Starting in Race 7: $1: 1,6 / 1,2,7 / 7,8,9,10 = $24

AQU Race 7 OClm $50,000N2X (3:16 et)

#6 According to Plan, #1 Shake the Moon

#6 According to Plan stretches back out to a route off a sharp win last out against Alw-1 company. That effort was flattered when the runner up, third, and sixth place finishers all came back to win next out. She is making just her fourth starts this year and eighth in her career and still appears to have some upside. She has enough pedigree to handle the stretch out and is in good hands with the Tagg barn that is 17% winners moving runners from sprint to route.

#1 Shake the Moon was not a threat in her U.S. debut but was facing much tougher, a sixth place finish in the G3 Long Island 'Cap. She earned the top last out speed fig in the effort and now adds lasix to the mix here along with the class drop. She fits well in this spot although the price may end up on the light side.

AQU Race 8 Md $50,000 (3:44 et)

#2 Notecard, #1 Awesome Actor, #7 Shareholder Dues

#2 Notecard ships in from MD for the Trombetta barn off a runner up finish at Laurel against maiden special weight foes in a race taken off the turf. The colt ran into a much the best loose on the lead gate to wire winner last out. The colt drops in for a tag for the first time here for a barn that is 40% winners (with a +ROI) moving runners from maiden special to maiden claiming. The colt has seven sibs that are winners, top earner Skip Code ($296K).

#1 Awesome Actor makes his debut for the Hough barn that is 15% winners with first time starters. The colt is by Awesome Again (8% winners with debut runners) out of a Theatrical mare that has dropped six foals to race, all winners including a pair of stakes winners. Top earner is Numerous Times ($845K). Debuts with lasix and despite the rail draw can be a factor in this spot.

AQU Race 9 Alw $46,000N1X (4:12 et)

#10 Just Livin a Dream, #8 Speed Dating, #9 Our Golden Dream, #7 False Impression

#10 Just Livin a Dream stretches out to a route here for her first start against winners. She made a good late rally while six wide to get up and break her maiden going seven furlongs. She looks capable of handling the stretch out to a route and she is a half to turf stakes winner Precious Passion ($966K). Worth a look if we see close to the 10/1 ML.

#8 Speed Dating also broke her maiden going seven furlongs on turf and will be going two turns for the first time. She went gate to wire over "good" turf to win by eight lengths last out. She is heading in the right direction and will have no problem with the extra ground. The McLaughlin barn is 25% winners moving runners from sprint to route.

Price Plays:

These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
