The third wagering odds.

Without an obvious chalk, it becomes hard for online betting fans to find that special long shot. Such is the case with the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies this year where I had trouble finding a single stand out.

Let’s get to it!

Race-day: 10/24/2008

Santa Anita - - Race 5

Bessemer Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies

$2,000,000

For Fillies Two Years Old

1 1/16th miles on Pro-Ride

C.C. Silk - - 4/1 fair online odds

C.C. Silk has won her last two races by a combined 12 ¼ lengths. She’s going to be a long shot in this because there appears to be other speed signed up for this. That’s true and not true. Like Indyanne in the Filly and Mare Sprint, nobody in the Juvenile Fillies is as fast as early as C.C. Silk. The daughter of Medaglia D’Oro has already won a mile race going two turns on the front end. That should give her a decided advantage in this race. She will be coming off of a short layoff but that shouldn’t bother online betting fans. Her trainer, Dale Romans, does a decent job getting his horses ready for races and jockey Robby Albarado could start a huge Breeders’ Cup weekend by winning aboard this filly. She’s good enough to wire this field. At expected big odds, I love her to wire the field.

Stardom Bound - - 3/1 fair online odds

Stardom Bound won’t go off at less than 2 to 1, maybe 8 to 5, in this race. She has dominated on the west coast, already has a win over the Pro-Ride surface, and has won two Grade I races in a row. Some of her competitors won’t have another victory in their past performances much less two grade ones. She’s a definite player and warrants serious consideration at 3 to 1 or higher, but this is the Breeders’ Cup where taking a short price on a favorite, even one like Stardom Bound, will lead to a depleted bank roll quicker than anything.

Pursuit of Glory - - 5/1 fair online odds

The depth of this field can’t be questioned when a filly like Pursuit of Glory, after finishing third in a Grade I at Newmarket, arrives to the United States and no doubt will go off at overlaid online betting odds. There’s just no way to describe how good Pursuit of Glory possibly is. She has the requisite breeding, her pops is named Fusaichi Pegasus and her mama is named Sophisticat (out of Storm Cat), to tear a new one in both C.C. Silk and Stardom Bound. The only question is whether or not she will be able to repeat that third place finish on the Pro-Ride surface while stretching out from six furlongs. Huge odds will almost require a wager, right?

Dream Empress - - 7/1 fair online odds

Dream Empress will probably go off second choice in the wagering. She should. She just won the Grade I Alcibades at Keeneland, is trained by Kenny McPeek and is no stranger to two turns. She actually debuted on the turf at Ellis Park for McPeek going two turns. She already is an expert at the 1 1/16th mile distance having won her two tries at the distance. She has the entire package. So, why am I making her online odds so high that a bet on her will be virtually impossible? Because she improved so much in her last race, that I believe a bounce may be in order. Will she translate that Polytrack form to the Pro-Ride surface? That’s the big question.
