Breeders’ Cup Betting - Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile

Bookmark and Share by D.S. Williamson

The word is already out on the colt that should romp in this race. In fact out of every single Breeders’ Cup race on both days, this one should provide a for sure winner.

I just have no reason to go against this horse. I looked, believe me, but he’s so damn good on paper and visually that I can’t knock him at all.

He should absolutely romp in this race. Online racebook fans should seriously consider singling this colt in all of their exotic bets. That’s how good he looks in this.

Let’s get to it!

Race-day: 10/25/2008

Santa Anita - - Race 5

Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile

$2,000,000

For Colts and Geldings Two Years Old

1 1/16th miles on Pro-Ride

Square Eddie - - 2/1 fair online odds

He ain’t square, he’s the bomb! This guy was awesome in his last race, a 4 ¾ length victory in the Grade I Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland. He just exploded in the lane on the Polytrack and lengthened with every stride. How good did he look? He sort of resembled his half-brother, Curlin, in Curlin’s victory in the Arkansas Derby last year. Owner J. Paul Reddam transferred this Euro runner to Doug O’Neil’s barn. O’Neil should have this fella ready to roll to a victory in this race since Vineyard Haven, for some strange reason, wasn’t pre-entered into this. He should go off as a huge favorite. Unless he throws his jock, I don’t see him losing.

Street Hero - - 5/1 fair online odds

A half brother to Street Sense battling it out with a half brother to Curlin in the Bessemer Trust Juvenile! That sounds awesome, doesn’t it? Like his half brother two years ago, Street Hero put it altogether in his prep race for this. I love the way he laid right off of the pace and then just exploded past the field for trainer and owner Myung Kwon Cho in the Grade I Norfolk. It was easily the biggest race that any horse Cho has trained has ever wonStreet Hero is the likeliest horse to take down “The Square” should Eddie falter in this.

Munnings - - 6/1 fair online odds

This 1.7 million dollar purchase out of Speightstown has a great reputation and even better speed ratings, but there’s something about him that just makes him look like a loser to me. He could develop into a really good horse but Vineyard Haven just buried him in the Grade I Champagne, I mean, he just got throttled in that race, so I can’t recommend since it’s likely he goes off at odd close to the favorite in this. He is worth a long look should his online odds actually drift up to 6 to 1 or higher, but if he stays around 7/2 or 3 to 1, which is likely, I have to pass.

Mine That Bird - - 9/1 fair online odds

The last two times that the Breeders’s Cup has been run at Santa Anita Richard “Papa” Mandella has dominated. He doesn’t have a whole of horses in this Breeders’ Cup but he does have this son of Birdstone who on paper looks horribly overmatched in this. There is a reason that Double Eagle Farm transferred this four time winner in Canada to Mandella to train up to this race. If he has any sort of ability at all, Mandella will get it out of him. Now, if he has just been playing possum and is ready to make a serious jump in this race, Mandella could provide a huge overlay bet to online racebook fans.
