Breeders’ Cup Betting - Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf

Bookmark and Share by D.S. Williamson

For the first time in its history the Breeders’ Cup will offer wagering on a turf race exclusively for juvenile fillies. Only two year old fillies are allowed to enter and run in this race.

Online BetUS Sportsbook betting fans look at the trainer, breeding, and jockey stats in order to find the winner of this race.

Let’s get to the race!

Race-day: 10/24/2008

Santa Anita - - Race 4

Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf

$1,000,000

For Fillies Two Years Old

1 mile on the turf

Consequence - - 3/1 fair online odds

This daughter of super stud turf sire El Prado has done nothing but run over turf in two races. She appears to have exceptional ability on the lawn as she broke her maiden over good turf and then came back and lost by a half length in a Grade III on yielding turf. She should get firm turf for the Breeders’ Cup race and because Dream Empress most likely will go in the Juvenile Fillies later on in the card, I suspect Consequence to go off close to favoritism in this. Hopefully online racebook fans will get at least 3 to 1 on this gal. She’s trained by Shug McGaughey. That means she’ll be ready to take down the rest of the field on October 24th.

Heart Shaped - - 4/1 fair online odds

Did I just say that Consequence should go off close to favoritism? Well, yes, she should, but the favorite in this race no doubt should be the Aiden O’Brien trained Heart Shaped. Heart Shaped will be coming into this after finishing fifth by 4 ½ lengths in a Grade I race at Newmarket. So far she has never gone past six furlongs in any race to date, but that shouldn’t bother a single online betting fan. She’s got the goods, make no mistake and I doubt that she will get outclassed. After all, her daddy Storm Cat is considered the greatest sire of all time. She also comes out of an Alydar mare. Because she’s trained by Aidan O’Brien, the likelihood of her failing is minimal. A top three placing might be assured.

Freedom Rings - - 6/1 fair online odds

What’s not to like about Freedom Rings? It took her three races to get it together but when she did she almost won a Grade III on yielding turf at Belmont. The brilliant way in which she closed in that race, from five furlongs against soft fractions, speaks volumes about how good this filly could be. Trainer David Donk is known to get everything he can out of his turf horses. She’s got the ability. The only real question is whether or not the second place finish, where she beat Consequence, was an actual measure of her ability or just a flash in the pan race. Her daddy, Proud Citizen, comes out of Gone West. That means she has turf breeding in her lineage.

Black Magic Mama - - 8/1 fair online odds

It’s never a good idea to begin your turf career in a Grade I against the best of your generation but that’s exactly what Black Magic Mama is attempting to do. Of course, she was sired by Black Mamba who was a terrific turf horse at Santa Anita for a number of years. Will that be enough to find her in the winner’s circle? Maybe not, but her trainer, Doug O’Neil, knows how to get them ready for the home team. He’ll have her at her best for this.
