Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint - Trainer Brett Calhoun Holds the Cards

Without a doubt the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, on paper, looks like the most competitive race this October 25th. For the first time in its history, the Breeders’ Cup will run a race at 6 ½ furlongs on the turf for a purse of a million dollars.
For online racebook betting fans, the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint will offer a plethora of overlay horses which will demand some attention as potential online betting options. There’s just no way to figure which horses are the classiest of the bunch in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint because every single horse had to prep in a race that was sort of new.
In the past turf sprint specialists would wait until the Oak Tree Meet at Santa Anita in order to pick up part of a nice Grade III purse going down the hill. Now, turf sprint horses have suddenly shown up all over the country.
This includes from the hot bed horse racing state of Louisiana where some of the worst bred but best trainers and jockeys reside. Louisiana breds hardly ever make their presence felt in Grade I races. Online racebook fans can actually make a field day betting against home grown Louisiana online wagering interests in races where outsiders are running. In fact horses that run in Louisiana usually can’t carry their form to other tracks.
But that’s not the case with this year’s inaugural running of the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. A Louisiana trainer, William Brett Calhoun, might actually have the two best online betting interests in the race in Chamberlain Bridge, a four year old son of War Chant, and Mr. Nightlinger, a four year old son of Indian Charlie.
The best out of the two is Mr. Nighlinger who has won five races in a row. How good has Mr. Nightlinger been? He has won at between five and five and a half furlongs at three different racetracks. He is without question the best racehorse on the turf at five to five and a half furlongs in the nation.
Ah, that’s the kicker, isn’t it? Astute online racebook betting fans will note that that the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint is at 6 ½ furlongs. Can Mr. Nightlinger carry his speed an extra furlong? Maybe. He’s out of Indian Charlie which means when they turn for home and these speedsters hit that dirt patch, Mr. Nightlinger could actually speed up.
But he will be an iffy online betting proposition at what figures to be very low online odds.
BetUS online sportsbook fans have to prefer his stablemate, Chamberlain Bridge, in this race. If Bridge makes the race, and there’s little doubt that he will, he should be going off somewhere around 5 or 6 to 1.
Chamberlain Bridge is starting to come into his own. His last race was his best and obviously Brett Calhoun feels that he is the horse to carry the trainer’s mantle in theis Breeders’ Cup.
I’ll be paying close attention to Chamberlain Bridge in this race. In my mind, he should present a nice overlaid bet for online racebook fans in what figures to be the toughest online betting race of the day.
