Breeders’ Cup Wagering - Go Between is an Artificial Track Version of Curlin

Bookmark and Share by D.S. Williamson

The Steve Asmussen trained Curlin is easily the best horse in the world. He’s won in Dubai, New York and Kentucky this year. He can run close to the pace or come from the clouds. He’s bigger and faster than any horse that he will be facing in the Breeders’ Cup Classic this year. But Curlin will be trying something for the first time this season. He will be running competitively over an artificial surface.

How will Curlin respond? He should be just fine, but even then this online racebook fan might be looking to beat him in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Why? Because of a horse named Go Between that has done most of his running, and winning, on the West Coast.

Go Between has been brilliant this year. Out of five races since January, Go Between has won two and finished second in three other starts. Four of those races were on the synthetic surface where Go Between has a fantastic three wins and three places out of six races on artificial surfaces.

Like Curlin, he has provided online betting profits his entire career to online betting fans, but unlike Curlin he has done so in fields loaded with other talented horses. He has been an overlay in most of the races he has won and no doubt will be a huge overlay in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

What makes Go Between the type of horse capable of upsetting Curlin? There are a number of reasons.

First, Go Between is an artificial surface specialist. He has won on Polytrack and cushion track and no doubt will appreciate Santa Anita’s Pro-Ride surface. He has already won over 2.7 million dollars and will be looking to add to that total in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Second, unlike Curlin and Big Brown, Go Between won’t have to travel in order to make the race. It’s true that Curlin is already at Santa Anita, that’s always a good sign for a horse that online betting fans might be looking to make a wager on, but Curlin will still have to acclimate himself to the different weather he his bound to find on October 25th as opposed to what he is used to.

Of course, that shouldn’t have an affect on Curlin. More likely, the fact that Go Between doesn’t have to change his pattern at all in order to make the Classic will have a decided affect on him. He pretty much walks from his barn to the starting gate on October 25th. That could be a huge deal for Go Between who has found a home out here on the West Coast.

The question regarding Go Between is one of overall ability. He is certainly bred to win a race like the Breeders’ Cup Classic but whenever he’s had to face the best of the best, the injured Heatseaker in the San Antonio for instance, Go Between has lost.

That makes him an iffy online betting proposition on Breeders’ Cup day depending on his odds. If he goes off at 6 to 1 or higher, Go Between should be a decent counter to the 1 to 5 Curlin.

At online wagering odds of 5 to 1 or less, though, Go Between becomes an underlay.
