Breeders’ Cup Gambling - Final Thoughts for Races on October 25th

Bookmark and Share by D.S. Williamson

My opinion hasn’t changed all that much since first looking at these races about a week ago. I still feel that some of the favorites on the Saturday Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championship card aren’t worth making an online wager on.

To me, it makes no sense to take short online odds on any horse running in any of the Breeders’ Cup Races. Overlays should be the word of the day for Saturday.

We’ve got nine races to revisit. So, let’s get to it!

Breeders’ Cup Marathon

My top choice in this race isn’t running. Neither is my second choice. So, I’m going with my fourth choice, Delightful Kiss, who at the BetUS online wagering odds of 8 to 1 could make some online racebook fans very happy. Watch out for 20 to 1 shot Muhannak who has the breeding to do well on the Pro-Ride surface.

Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint

California Flag is ridiculously fast, is breaking from the ten hole, and should go gate to wire in this. His online betting odds are 15 to 1. That’s crazy. I mean, Flag is the horse that holds the record for this distance on this course. 15 to 1? I’ll take it all day.

Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile

Sure, on paper this looks like a tough race. But when you break it down, the overlaid online odds on My Pal Charlie at 20 to 1 makes this race an easy one to call. My Pal Charlie is 2 out of 3 at the distance. Not only that but he’s coming off of a Grade II victory in the Super Derby. 20 to 1 are ridiculous odds on Charlie. I like Lewis Michael but his online odds of 5 to1 are right about where the cut-off is for me to make an online bet on him. I’ll go with My Pal Charlie.

Breeders’ Cup Mile

The filly Goldikova, who beat the Henrythenavigator earlier this year, will be super chalky in this. Yes, she should win, but this race, like every year, has come up tough. The more I look at this race the more I like Daytona to steal it on the front end. He’s 2 out of 3 at the distance and 3 for 3 on the Santa Anita turf course. What’s more important is the fact that only Thorn Song will want to go with him early. He’s my play. I also think Bold Chieftan, who beat Daytona and finished second to Whatsthescript in August can make some noise at 15 to 1 in this.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile

Square Eddie was explosive in the Grade I Breeders’ Futurity in his last race. Why bother? Eddie to me is easily the best horse in this race. He should have no trouble getting to the finish line first. At the online wagering odds of 9 to 2, he’s somewhat of an overlay to boot.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf

Westphalia or Bittel Road should win this straight-up but at 6 to 1, Skipadate is my play in this. Skipadate could find the pace perfect for him and he comes out of a very highly rated race. He’s the pick but Grand Adventure has a nice shot at 5 to 1. Bittel Road will find this group more difficult than the last group he ran against.

Breeders’ Cup Sprint

I liked Cost of Freedom but I’m disappointed in the 4 to 1 online odds. Fatal Bullet at 6 to 1 might be the better play as he’s coming out of a very good race and gets the outside draw. I do believe that Cost of Freedom could track and win this, but I just like the outside horse more. I’ll make an online bet on Fatal Bullet at 6 to 1.

Breeders’ Cup Turf

It’s difficult to single Winchester in this race, but that’s what I will probably do in my Pick 4 and Pick 6 tickets. He’s a dynamite three year old that showed the turn of foot needed to win a race like this. There’s nothing but closers in here which means Winchester could stalk and pounce with a lot left in the tank. He’s the play. Conduit has an outsiders’ shot at 6 to 1.

Breeders’ Cup Classic

I love Henrythenavigator at 10 to 1 in this race. Curlin is practically unbeatable but Henrythenavigator and Duke of Marmalade will be the two best horses that Curlin has ever faced after the filly Rags to Riches in the Belmont last year. I also believe that Fairbanks has an outside shot to steal this race. There’s no other speed. I mean, at all.
