Horse Pick of the Day - Belmont Park Race 10

Belmont Park hosts there New York bred stakes day on Saturday. For horseplayers, it’s a fantastic overall card in which to find an overlaid horse bet.

Almost every race figures to offer an overlay or two for horseplayers but the Empire Classic, for a terrific purse of $250,000, no doubt offers the best overlay of the day.

Let’s take a look at Race 10 at Belmont Park on Saturday, the Empire Classic Stakes.

Ruffino - - 8/1 morning line odds

The Harold Bond trained son of Raffie’s Majesty has to break from the far outside post, the 10 th, but he’s got a huge shot in this race at big odds. There is a lot of speed in this race and Ruffino is the type of horse that could get himself into the second flight, about a horse length or two off of the rail, and make a big run in the lane. Ruffino is 2-1-1 out of 5 lifetime races on Belmont’s main track, busted a terrific work on Oct. 17 th, and gets the awesome John Velasquez to ride.

Haynesfield - - 4/1 morning line odds

Steve Asmussen stretches Haynesfield out from a 6 ½ furlong prep on October 2 nd in this. That’s a sign that Haynesfield is well meant. Ramon Dominguez takes the call, Haynesfield can either lead or stalk, and Asmussen wouldn’t put Haynesfield into this unless he thought the horse could win it. There’s a lot to like here.

Future Prospect - - 8/5 morning line shot

There’s no doubt that the big favorite in the Empire Classic, with a 3 and 1 out of 4 record at Belmont Park, could and probably should win this race, but in his last Future Prospect blue the doors off. He had never run that fast before. Does he bounce to moon or does he keep his excellent form? At the odds, bettors can’t put money on him to win in this field, but he’s a must use in the exotics.

Wagering Strategy

Ruffino is going off at nice odds and deserves a bet to win and place. I will also play an exacta and a trifecta box with Ruffino, Future Prospect and Haynesfield.
