Santa Anita resumes racing on Wednesday with an eight race card that features a state-bred allowance for four year olds and up.

Allowance races at Santa Anita often times are full of overlay possibilities depending on the conditions. Sports betting fans should take advantage of the opportunities when they present themselves.

This four year old gelding out of High Brite hasn’t been to the races since April of 2008 but the trainer Carla Gaines usually will sit on a horse for a long time looking for the right spot. Online racebook fans have to love the work over the Pro-Ride surface on December 27th, and jockey Joe Talamo is an excellent rider for Gaines. Gaines has won with 3 out of 10 starters at this meet. She could pick up a 4th win on a horse that is lightly raced compared to these others. I like Spirit’s chances.

Devoted Magic - - 6/1 online betting odds

Jerry Hollendorfer is 27% first time off the claim, Joel Rosario is considered one of the best jockeys in Southern California, and Devoted Magic has won two out of his last three races. Why then is Magic’s morning line at 6 to 1? I don’t understand it either which is why I’ve pegged this 3 out of 8 lifetime winner as having a huge shot in this.

Draft Choice - - 5/1 online betting odds

Draft Choice gets an outside post and faces really only one other speed horse in It’s In God’s Hands. Jockey Martin Pedroza is very good with front-runners and this fella busted the best out of 11 works on December 31st. He’s got a chance at what could be nice online horse betting odds but wiring this tough field, or getting into a speed duel and then hanging on, is a lot to ask. Still, he’s the speed of the speed.

I’m putting an online wagering win and place bet on Scott’s Spirit. I will also use in an exacta and trifecta box with Draft Choice and Devoted Magic.
