Horse Pick of the Day:  Aqueduct – Race 7

Aqueduct Racetrack has provided plenty of overlays for racebook fans in recent years.

With two dirt courses, one being the inner dirt course and one being the main dirt course, horseplayers have to be especially careful as to on which course the horses are running.  Some horses run well on the inner.  Some horses run well on the main.

Race 7 at Aqueduct on Friday will be run on the inner dirt course.  Let’s take a look at that race.

Aqueduct – Race 7

For Three Year Olds and Upward Foaled in New York State and Approved By the New York State-Bred Registry Which Have Never Won a Race Other Than Maiden, Claiming, or Starter or Which Have Never Won Two Races

Putin - - 9/2 morning line odds

The reins broke and Putin bolted in his last, but before that race, in his maiden score, Putin was exceptional.  He can lay right off of the speed in this and the fact that he has inner dirt success is a huge plus.  He has a big shot to win this allowance race.

Olympic Pegasus - - 5/2 morning line

Jockey Ramon Dominguez, who rode Putin to his maiden victory, shows up on another maiden victor trying winners for the first time in Olympic Pegasus.  The son of Fusaichi Pegasus steadied at the 3/8ths pole in his first lifetime race, but still found a way to win.  He could be a serious racehorse for trainer Bruce Levine, but trying winners for the first time is always tough.

Cat Three Approach - - 3/1 morning line

Cat Three Approach drops back to a mile after getting outrun by Mr. Fantasy and Legal Consent in his last at 1 mile and 70 yards.  He has a shot but the lack of speed is a big concern.  He’ll make a huge move but I have the feeling that he’ll need some of the others in here to back up if he’s going to win this.

Wagering Strategy

I’m willing to give Putin another shot and will bet him to win and place.  I will also put Putin into an exacta and trifecta box with Cat Three Approach and Olympic Pegasus.
