Horse Racing from Aqueduct - Friday 3 Play

Bookmark and Share by Michael Dempsey

National stakes races on the weekends.

Friday’s card at Aqueduct has plenty of potential price plays. Thursday’s card was on the chalky side, and coming up with live longshots has been a challenging task over the past couple of weeks.

Today’s Late Pick 3 play is a $24 investment and the opening leg of the sequence offers up a couple of longshots we will use on our ticket.

The play of the day comes in the middle of the card, a $10,000 starter handicap race. The recent claim by the Scott Lake barn looks primed for a good effort and is 7/2 on the morning line.

Today's Play of the Day from Aqueduct:

AQU Race 5 Hcp $10,000s (2:24 et)

#6 Big Shadow 7/2

#4 Not Now 5/1

#5 Big Shadow 7/2

#3 Precisely That 5/1

Analysis: #6 Big Shadow had to check after breaking poorly and made a mild late run to finish third last out under the seven pound bug against $20K claimers. The seven year old mare was claimed out of the race by the Lake barn that is 28% winners first off the claim. She figures to move forward with a race under her belt over the surface and with a jock switch from the bug to Hill.

#4 Not Now is 2 for 2 since the Contessa barn claimed this gal for $10K three back. Last out she came up the inside and drew clear to beat $15K non winners of three in the mud. The mare owns the top last out speed fig and looks sharp enough to be in the mix here facing tougher.

Wagering

WIN: #6 to win at 5/2 or better.

EX: 4,6 / 3,4,5,6

TRI: 4,6 / 3,4,5,6 / 3,4,5,6,7,8

Today’s Pick 3 Play from Aqueduct:

Starting in Race 7: $1: 3,4,9 / 4,6 / 1,2,3,8 = $24

AQU Race 7 Md $45,000 (3:20 et)

#9 Quantifier, #3 Laca, #4 Smokin' Stephanie

#9 Quantifier drops in for a tag here for her second start off nearly a year layoff. She was down along the inside last out in the sloop and could not make up any ground in the stretch behind a gate to wire winner over a speed favoring racing strip. The filly was fourth behind repeat winners in her races two and three back. Drops into a softer spot here and figures to be tighter for her second start off a long layoff.

#3 Laca pressed the early pace while wide and weakened in the stretch to finish seventh last out in the slop in her local debut. The filly has been a money burner, the beaten chalk in four of her second career outings. She drops back in for a tag here and gets an upgrade in jocks to Ramon. The filly owns the edge in early and mid pace numbers.

AQU Race 8 OClm $35,000C (3:49 et)

#6 Noble Lad, #4 Gimmearoutine

#6 Noble Lad returned off a 2 1/2 month break and shipped to Maryland to pick up his maiden score, battling for the early lead and drawing clear to win by 7 1/4 lengths. The effort was flattered when the runner up Bhutan came back to graduate in his next outing on 2/4 at Laurel by nearly six lengths. This colt was originally a $1.4 million purchase and after getting beaten in his first two starts seems to have figured things out, his last start a hint this guy has some real talent. Looks capable of winning right back here.

#4 Gimmearoutine tracked the early pace while in between foes, had to steady in traffic at the 3/8's and came up empty after angling out four wide for the stretch run. The gelding was a sharp winner two back against $35K claimers and is better than he showed last out. Looking for him to rebound with a much better effort here.

AQU Race 9 Md $15,000 (4:18 et)

#2 Money Thief, #3 Sage the Rage, #8 Runnin On Guilt, #1 Kittys Wish

#2 Money Thief gets the slight nod in this bottom level NY bred maiden claimer, and we have seen entirely too many of these races the past couple of weeks. The filly had to steady when caught in tight quarters soon after the break and was not a threat in a ninth place finish. Two back she made a mild late run to finish a non threatening fourth. The filly tries two turns for the first time here and has enough pedigree to handle the extra ground. She is by Cat Thief out of a Cherokee Run mare that has dropped one other foal to race, 1 for 9 Wise Princess ($12K). The low % barn and jock may help the price here.

#3 Sage the Rage showed improvement in her second career start with a runner up finish, no match for the nine length winner but nearly five lengths clear of the rest of the field. She caught off tracks in both of her starts. She is out of the stakes placed A Real Nor'easter ($182K). The filly owns the top last out speed fig and looks like a good fit here facing a real slow group of state breds.

Price Plays:

These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
