Horse Racing from Aqueduct - A Sloppy Day at the Tracks

Bookmark and Share by Michael Dempsey

Padding Your Bankroll: Friday November 13

It should be a very interesting day at Aqueduct on Friday, as the remnants of what was once Hurricane Ida makes its way into the area.

There is a 90% chance of rain and the winds could play havoc with the jockeys as they try to find their way to the wire over what likely is going to be a sloppy track.

Our top pick in today’s play of the day is Illegal Search, who is bred to relish a wet track. It will be the tenth career start for the three year old filly, and her first over a wet track.

Our Late Pick 3 play includes three races where it looks like we can beat the favorite, and the $24 investment includes a couple of live longshots.

It may not be the prettiest of days at the Big A, but it certainly looks as if it can be profitable.

Today's Play of the Day from Aqueduct:

AQU Race 4 Md $35,000 (1:52 ET)
#8 Illegal Search 6/1
#4 Delta Holiday 8/1
#6 Quoin 8/1
#7 Night 7/2

Analysis: #8 Illegal Search has had nine chances to earn her diploma, not the type I usually like to back here with several lightly races and firsters in here. However, this is just her second go for Contessa, last out getting moving late to make a mild late run for fourth. Two back at Del Park she checked in third for a $25K tag behind a pair of next out winners. She has a solid off track pedigree and this will be her first trip over a surface that likely will be wet.

#4 Delta Holiday debuts for the Alexander barn that is 21% winners (with a +ROI) with first time starters. The $100K purchase is by Harlan's Holiday (14% winners with debut runners) out of a Cormorant mare that has dropped five runners but just one winner, stakes winner Board Eligible ($448K). The filly has decent works on the morning tab.

Wagering
WIN: #8 to win at 4/1 or better.
EX: 4,8 / 4,6,7,8
TRI: 4,8 / 4,6,7,8 / 1,4,6,7,8

Today’s Pick 3 Play from Aqueduct:

Starting in Race 7: $1: 3,4,7 / 1,4,6,7 / 8,9 = $24

AQU Race 7 OClm $75,000N3X (3:16 ET)
#4 Broad River, #3 Yorktown, #7 Lemon Cream Pie

#4 Broad River went gate to wire to beat Alw-3 optional claimers last out on the turf at Belmont Park. The runner up in the race was Expansion, a next winner of the Red Smith (G2) on Nov. 7. The five year old is bred top and bottom to handle a wet track and has run okay on the off going, a couple of runner up finishes in three trips. The five year old earned a career top last out, which was his second start for Mott.

#3 Yorktown tracked the early pace and faded to finish a well beaten sixth last out in the Knickerbocker (G3). The colt is back in the allowance ranks here and beat Alw-2 foes two back in a good looking effort. This would be his first go on conventional dirt or slop. Worth tossing in the mix here if we catch most of the 10/1 ML.

AQU Race 8 Clm $35,000 (3:44 ET)
#4 Trainee, #7 Boss Tiffany, #6 Dicey Girl, #1 Chippewa Court

#4 Trainee drops into an easier spot here after a disappointing effort last out in his first go for the Levine barn off the claim. This gal has lost 14 races in a row, but is a stakes winner and has faced tougher, this being the cheapest she has run. She is bred to handle a wet track and passed his first allowance condition back in '07 on a wet track. The barn is 33% winners (with a +ROI) second off the claim and looking for the mare to bounce back with a better effort here.

#7 Boss Tiffany is back in for a tag here after a sixth place finish last out against $25K starter handicap foes. The mare pressed the early pace from the outside and ran out of gas in the stretch. Two have come out of that race to win next out. The mare is perfect over the Big A main track, winning all three of her starts here. She owns a solid pace profile throughout and has a couple of wins over a wet track.

AQU Race 9 OClm $50,000N2X (4:12 ET)
#8 Absolute Heaven, #9 My Magic Moment

#8 Absolute Heaven is making her first start since August where the mare was a good second at this level going 5 1/2 furlongs on the weeds. The winner and fifth place finisher in that race came back to win next out. The mare was claimed out of the race by the Chip Dutrow barn that is 7 for 12 (with a +ROI) first off the claim and 3 for 9 (with a +ROI) with horses returning off a 61-180 day layoff. She is bred to handle a wet track.

#9 My Magic Moment gets some class relief here as she has been facing stakes company since breaking her maiden. She won a stake as a two year old and missed winning a Grade 3 in a photo. This is her first go facing older but she looks up to it and she is bred to handle the off going.
