Horse Racing Pick 3 of the Day: Starts in Race 8 at Gulfstream Park

Bookmark and Share by D.S. Williamson

There are four graded stakes horse races on Gulfstream Park’s Saturday card. Three of those four graded stakes races make up my Pick 3 of the Day.

1st Leg: 4:37 pm EST

Pick 3 of the Day – Gulfstream Park

Race 8

Grade II Hutcheson Stakes

$150,000 For Three Year Olds

7 furlongs on dirt

Horses Used: 1-Radiohead, 7-D’Funnybone, 8-A Little Warm

Analysis: Radiohead goes to the barn of Richard Dutrow after finishing 7th in the Grade I BC Juvenile. Radiohead won a Grade II overseas in Britain and is Grade I placed. The son of Johannesburg should step it up big time after moving to Dutrow’s barn. D’Funnybone is another Dutrow entry that should be tough in this. The morning line favorite failed miserably in the BC Juvenile but that race was over Santa Anita’s Pro-Ride surface. D’Funnybone is better over dirt. A Little Warm is trained by Richard Dutrow’s brother, Anthony Dutrow. A Little Warm is coming off of a huge victory over the slop in the $100,000 Spectacular Bid Stakes. There’s a chance that A Little Warm just freaked on the mud, but there’s also a chance that he’s just getting better.

Race 9

Grade III Canadian Turf Stakes

$150,000 For Four Year Olds and Upward

1 mile on turf

Horses Used: 4-Jet Propulsion, 7-Courageous Cat

Analysis: Jet Propulsion was brilliant in the $300,000 Summit of Turf Stakes going 1 1/8th miles for the first time under the care of Martin Wolfson. Jet Propulsion should be better in this race and figures to get a fantastic trip behind front runner Le Grand Cru. Courageous Cat finished second to the amazing mare Goldikova in the Grade I BC Mile in his last race. Trainer Bill Mott is 23% winners with his horses coming off of a lay off, Cat comes into this off of good works, and jockey Garrett Gomez is arguably the best in the best in the world.

Race 10

Grade II Fountain of Youth Stakes

$250,000 For Three Year Olds

1 1/8 miles on dirt

Horses Used: 2-Buddy’s Saint, 5-Jackson Bend, 6-Prince Will I Am, 8-Eskendereya

Analysis: Buddy’s Saint is one of the favorites in the future book to win the Kentucky Derby. Saint has the speed to go wire to wire in this even though there is other speed signed on. He’s a must use in the Pick 3 even though he’s probably a bad wager to bet to win. Jackson Bend will be tracking Buddy’s Saint from the outset. Bend goes second time for trainer Nick Zito and has already banked over half a million bucks. The horse is a winner. Prince Will I Am finished 2nd in a 1 1/8th mile allowance race in his last. The son of Victory Gallop is a good horse and appears to be improving. He rates as the upset special in this. Eskendereya looked very good winning a 1 mile allowance on this track in early January after failing in the Grade I BC Juvenile Turf in October. The Todd Pletcher trained horse could be any sort and is a must use.

Combinations: 3 x 2 x 4 = $24

$2 Pick 3 = $48
