Horse Racing Returns after the Breeders Cup - Picks from Aqueduct

The Breeders’ Cup is history, and what a two day event it was, capped off by an electrifying performance by Zenyatta in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
The great thing about racing is it does not end after our big event. While we can’t wager on a football game after the Super Bowl, it will be business as usual today for horseplayers.
We simply change locales, today heading off to Aqueduct for our betting action.
Our play of the day comes early in the card, the $65,000 In Her Glory Stakes, going off as the third race on the nine race card.
We will try to beat the morning line favorite Tar Heel Mom for the top spot.
The Late Pick 3 play is a $24 investment that starts in the seventh race, a first level allowance race for fillies and mares.
Two of the three races in the sequence are scheduled on the turf, and there is some rain in the forecast, but I am hoping we stick to the turf today.

Analysis: #5 Camara Oculta made a good late rally to get up and beat Alw-2 company last out at Philly off a 6 1/2 month layoff. The effort was flattered when the runner up Jemilyn came back to beat Alw-2 company in her next outing on Nov. 3. The filly was mired at her second level allowance condition for a while and now she is stepping into stakes company, but she does figures to move forward second off the bench and she has won 2 of her 4 starts on wet tracks. Among the top three in here, she figures to be the best value.
#2 Tar Heel Mom was a smart looking winner in the Seton Hall last out at the Big M in the slop, drawing clear to win by 4 1/2 lengths. It was her third win in six trips over a wet track in her career. She handled a wet track here last fall with a win and a second in her two trips over the surface. She bounced off her career top four back and could regress off her latest, but a slight regression may still give her enough to get the job done here.

#4 Paracaidas, #8 Gran Appeal
#4 Paracaidas was a good second in her debut, which was her lone go on turf and returns to the green (unless Mother Nature interferes) in her second start against winners. Last out she tracked the early pace while down along the inside and faded to finish a non threatening fifth on the main track at the Spa. The winner of the race was Acronym, who beat Alw-2 optional claimers in her next start. The third place finisher Mother Ruth beat Alw-1 foes in her next start, then ran a good second in the Poker Night Stakes on Nov. 1 here. I like her pedigree, she is by War Chant out of a Jade Hunter mare and I am hoping this race sticks to the turf.
#8 Gran Appeal made a good move around the far turn to get into the mix and finished a good second despite drifting inward and brushing with the eventual winner in the stretch. The winner Changing Skies came back to finish second against ALw-2 foes while the third place finisher Proud Lisa beat Alw-1 company on Oct. 30 at Keeneland.

#1 Well Positioned is making his first start since March where he came up lacking in two trips at Gulfstream Park. The colt broke his maiden over the main track here last fall by 14 1/4 lengths in his second career outing. Her lands with the Dutrow barn that is 16% winners with horses coming back off a +180 day layoff. Pompa owned this guy last fall when Reynolds was the named trainer. Entry mate #1a El Real Madrid is making his first start in over a year. The colt was last seen at Hawthorne checking in second in a Ill. bred stake. The colt is a Southern Missile (491K). Works say this guy may be ready to fire a good one off the bench.
#7 Sky's the Limit went gate to wire to break his maiden last out in his second career start. The fourth and fifth place finishers in that race came back to graduate in their next starts. This colt is the logical one to beat here and will be a light price.
AQU Race 9 Md Sp Wt (4:12 ET)

#3 Kuggerand had a tough post, was off next to last, and made a mild late run to finish sixth in his debut in the slop in a race taken off the turf. The gelding figures to move forward with a race under his belt and Ramon takes over the for Donk barn that is 15% winners (with a +ROI) moving runners from dirt to turf. The gelding is by Johannesburg (11% first turf) out of a mare that has dropped a couple of turf winners, top earner Madame Music ($64K), a two time turf winner.
#6 Tom Kitten makes his debut for former Pletcher assistant Benzel who is on the light side with firsters, hitting at a 5% clip. The colt is by Kitten's Joy out of a Caveat mare that won eight turf races and has dropped nine winners including three on turf. Johnny V. is off our top pick and lands here. Worth tossing in the mix here at a decent price.
