Oct. 22 Horse Pick of the Day - Belmont Park Race 7

The seventh race at Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships.

For online racebook fans now until the Friday are days where we need to concentrate on building that bankroll in order to go into both days with guns blazing. That means trying to find a horse that is going off at decent online odds and that will yield a nice online profit.

Solid Strike - - 6/1 online betting odds

Solid Strike is going off at overlaid online wagering odds because on paper he doesn’t appear to have much of a chance. He hasn’t done a whole lot on either dirt or turf and there’s no doubt that there are other horses in this race that have a nicer resume. The difference with Solid Strike, of course, is that he is the lone speed horse in this race. He should be able to get a lead on the inner turf at Belmont and coast to a victory. Sure, there are better horses in here, but who’s going to be close to Solid Strike turning for home. That’s the deal, isn’t it? He’s got what it takes to go gate to wire in this race.

Leadwithyourchin - - 7/2 morning line

This fella should be able to save ground going around the first turn. Once he reaches the top of the stretch, he’s going to need luck in order to punch through a hole and get to the finish line in time. He’s dropping in class which should help his cause and because his daddy is Dynaformer, there’s no questioning his ability on turf. I like Leadwithyourchin I expect him to be one of the few horses making a run at Solid Strike once they hit the top of the stretch.

T Harry - - 2/1 online betting odds

He looks awfully tough in this and there’s no doubt that he is the class of this field. Not only that, he goes into this claiming race for trainer Anthony Dutrow, Richard’s brother, who has had a lot of success with these types. He’d be the choice if it wasn’t for the awful online betting odds. At 2 to 1, I can’t endorse. But if for some reason he drifts up to 3 to 1 or 7/2…well, that’s a different story.

Wagering Strategy

Solid Strike should hold his odds which means a win and place wager on him looks like good online bets to make. I will use in an exacta and trifecta box with T Harry and Leadwithyourchin.
