Pad Your Bankroll - Horse Picks from Aqueduct

National major stakes races on the weekends.
We got through the frigid weather in New York on Wednesday in fine fashion, and now we are looking at even colder temperatures the next couple of days.
The high on Thursday is going to be 20 degrees. Mix some snow early in the morning and it looks like a good day to stay home and fire up the wagering account.
Since we got through Wednesday, with a high of just 24 degrees, I think we just might get today’s card in. Then we can start worrying about Friday’s card, where the temperature by post time will be in the teens.
Let’s hope today’s picks are not as frigid as the weather.
Today's Play of the Day from Aqueduct:
AQU Race 4 Clm $10,000N2L (1:55 et)
#4 Spring Manners 2/1
#8 El Don Pepe 6/1
#6 Brogue 5/2
#2 Blackfoot Trail 3/1
Analysis: #4 Spring Manners made a mild late rally to finish fourth last out after getting steadied at the top of the stretch. The gelding drops in for $10K and adds blinkers as he makes his third start off the claim by the Lake barn. The gelding owns a solid pace profile throughout and with the hood added and the easier company this guy should be closer to the front.
#8 El Don Pepe is one of four in here coming off just a five day break. The gelding dueled for the early lead while down along the inside and tired to finish a well beaten ninth. The inner surface was not kind to speed that day as most of the winners were coming from off the pace and from the outside. The gelding is reunited with Espinoza, who was aboard for his maiden score two back in his debut. Two came out of that race to graduate in their next starts. Drops into an easier spot here exiting a try against state bred Alw-1 foes.
Wagering
WIN: #4 to win at 9/5 or better.
EX: 4,8 / 2,4,6,8
TRI: 4,8 / 2,4,6,8 / 2,4,6,8,9
Today’s Pick 3 Play from Aqueduct:
Starting in Race 7: $1: 2,8 / 3,4,5 / 1,6,8,9 = $24
AQU Race 7 Clm $30,000B (3:20 et)
#8 Democrat Taxes, #2 Say Toba Sandy
#8 Democrat Taxes ships in from Churchill where the filly ran down straight three year olds for a $50K tag. maker finds a good spot here facing non winners of three of straight four year olds here. The filly owns a solid pace profile throughout and the barn scored with a late running type yesterday for his first win of the meeting. He has a chance of a real good day here.
#2 Say Toba Sandy has been facing NY breds, last out a third place finish in an even effort against Alw-2 optional claimers in the slop. She won at that level two back in the slop. She was claimed out of her last start by the Duggan barn that does not visit the claim box often, showing a 2 for 4 mark first off the claim. The filly looks like a good fit here in this spot.
AQU Race 8 Alw $50,000s (3:49 et)
#5 Moose Man, #3 Ghost Story, #4 Higher Place
#5 Moose Man is coming off a sharp win against $50K maidens at Del Park in November in his second career start. The fourth and seventh place finishers in that race both came back to graduate in their next starts. The gelding ships in for a sharp outfit and this looks like the right spot for his first go against winners. The gelding owns a solid pace profile throughout and he owns the top last out speed fig.
#3 Ghost Story earned a solid number in his maiden score two back and the effort was flattered by the runner up, third, and fourth place finishers all coming back to graduate in their next starts. His local debut last out did not go as well, getting bumped coming out of the gate and checking in a non threatening fourth as the beaten chalk. He has worked well since and figures to be in the mix here with a better start.
AQU Race 9 Clm $10,000 (4:18 et)
#9 Farleyshelonwheels, #6 Precise Action, #1 Military Action, #8 Building New Era
#9 Farleyshelonwheels stalked the early pace and came up empty in the stretch last out against $25K claimers in his first go off a seven week break. This guy drops into a better spot here tagged for just $10K. His form is going in the wrong direction since the barn took him for $60K in December of '07 where he immediately got a long vacation. This gelding reeks of physical problems (check out the jocks the barn was using) and goes with his morning guy RRod here. Still, the barn does good work with runners dropping 2+ classes, hitting at a 48% clip.
#6 Precise Action finished well for the runner up spot last out going six furlongs against $16K non winners of a race in six months, beaten two lengths for the top spot. The gelding is winless in five starts at the distance but does have a couple of runner up finishes and looks capable of handling the stretch out. He looks primed for a good effort here in this third start of his current form cycle.
Price Plays:
These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
