Santa Anita Park Race 7 - The Winning Trifecta

It’s back to Santa Anita on Wednesday where the best bet can be found in Race 7 on the card.
Usually, Race 7 at Santa Anita on week days provides the best horses wagering opportunities for racing fans because it’s a feature void of a true favorite. Santa Anita provides quality horses in almost every field in every race on every card.
Let’s take a look at the horse pick of the day for Wednesday.
Santa Anita Park – Race 7
Allowance $48,000 n1x
Downhill Tuf For Four Year Olds and Upward Which Have Never Won $10,000 Other than Maiden, Claiming or Starter or Which Have Never Won Two Races
6 ½ furlongs on turf
Midnight Crush - - 6/1 morning line
Sure, Midnight Crush is coming off of a maiden victory but it was only her second lifetime start. In her first lifetime start she finished second on the downhill turf course. Then, she won, now trainer Neil Drysdale sends her against the boys. Maybe, she’s just that good. I’m willing to bet that she is at odds of 6 to 1 in the racebook.
Mr. Gruff - - 8/5 morning line
The speed ratings are impressive and he’s working well, but Mr. Gruff isn’t lone speed in this race and he could bounce off two huge efforts. Gate to wire isn’t out of the question for the chalk, but Colgan’s Chip should be right there early which could make Mr. Gruff work harder than he wants to in that first half mile.
Stand Tall - - 10/1 morning line
Stand Tall shouldn’t have a shot in this race since he’s coming from a $20,000 claimer into this allowance, but he’s trained by Julio Canani who’s winning at a 36% clip at the meet and he’s got 2 second place finishes out of 3 starts on the downhill turf course. He’s a legitimate long shot but there are some things to like.
Wagering Strategy
At 6 to 1, Midnight Crush is a definite overlay. I will bet her to win and place. I will also put Midnight Crush, Stand Tall and Mr. Gruff into an exacta and trifecta box.
