The bay cold made his debut on December 26, 2005 at Santa Anita claiming the show money. He finished second to Brother Derek in the Santa Anita Derby in his most recent race.

Point Determined is from the first crop of recent racing superstar Point Given - the 2001 Horse of the Year after dominant performances in the Preakness and Belmont Stakes, and Point Determined looks like a carbon copy of his sire with his imposing stature.

Merengue, Point Determined's dam, is a daughter of Broad Brush, which is another strong stamina influence. Typical of many of the Broad Brush progeny, she also excelled on an off track, which may assist Point Determined down the road.

With both parents being stakes winners at a route of ground with pedigrees to get better with age, expect Point Determined to display the most quality at Classic distances, and expect him to continue to develop as a 3-year-old and probably not hit his full potential until he hits the handicap ranks as an older horse. He likely will make his move on the turn for home in the Derby.

Jockey Rafael Bejarano will ride Point Determined in the 132nd Running of the Roses. Bejarano Began riding in Peru in 1999, winning an apprentice title the same year. Came to the United States in May of 2002, beginning his U.S. riding career at River Downs in Cincinnati. He won the Churchill Downs 2004 Spring Meet title, as well as winning titles at Turfway Park and Ellis Park. He capped his success in 2004, when he led the nation in wins with 455, 72 more than his closest pursuer. He currently is riding in New York and on the Kentucky circuit. 2005 was another banner year for the young Peruvian; he finished fourth nationally in earnings, with $14.4 million, capped by a victory in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf aboard Intercontinental. Bejarano rode his first Derby last year, finishing eighth aboard Andromeda's Hero.

Point Determined is owned by the Robert & Beverly Lewis Trust. Bob recently passed away due to heart failure at his Newport Beach, Calif, residence on February 17. Bob and his long-time wife Beverly became active in racing and breeding in 1990, achieving amazing success in the past 15 years, primarily with trainers Wayne Lukas and Bob Baffert.

Point Determined is trained by the great, Bob Baffert. Baffert has won three of

the last eight Kentucky Derbys, including back-to-back wins in '97 and '98 with Silver Charm and Real Quiet, respectively, before capturing the '02 running with War Emblem. He is one of only three trainers ("Sunny Jim" Fitzsimmons and Max Hirsch) to have won the Derby three times. Only Wayne Lukas and Dick Thompson (4 wins) and Ben A. Jones (6) have more Derby wins than Baffert.
