Thursday's card at Saratoga looks on the chalky side. I can only come up with three runners on my longshot list, the smallest list we have had the entire meeting. We'll play a $24 late Pick 3 ticket and it certainly will not be a life changing score if we hit it. In fact, the payoff might not even be enough to pick up the check.

However, playing a chalky card at the Spa beats going to work, doesn't it?

Analysis: #3 My Typhoon is coming off a good looking win in the G1 Diana going nine furlongs, her third win over the Spa turf in five career starts and her sixth career graded stakes win. Tough to take a stand against her here despite the likely light price.

#2 Vacare suffered her first career loss last out when shipped to the left coast for the G1 Gamely, checking in third and beaten 5 1/4 lengths for the top spot. The winner of the race was Citronnade, who came back to win the G3 Beverly Hills in her next start and then was fourth in the G1 Beverly D. Returns off nearly a three month break for Clement barn that is 25% winners with horses coming back off a 61-1809 day layoff. Makes her third start of the year and capable of bouncing back with a better effort here for top notch turf barn.

#1 Meribel earned a career top last out in fourth place finish behind our top pick in the G1 Diana. Improved off a third place finish two back in a $100K stake at Philly where "No Go" misjudged the finish line. She has a pair of wins over the grass here.

#2 Monster Drive, #9 Storm N Lightning, #7 Metro Meteor, #6 Citifest

#2 Monster Drive is coming off a sharp win against Alw-1 state breds in his first trip over the main track here and now tries the lawn for the first time. Mott barn is 21% winners moving runners from dirt to turf. By Commendable (8% first turf) out of a unraced Known Fact mare that has dropped two other foals to race, no turf winners. Barn is on such a roll at the meeting and has won with a pair of runners making their turf debut and also has won with a couple of firsters on turf. #9 Storm N Lightning chased a loose on the lead gate to wire winner last out in runner up finish ahead of three of these he faces here. Gelding passed the Alw-1 condition over the grass here last summer and does have a win at today's condition coming last October at Belmont going six panels on the turf.

#4 Fanfare, #1 Too Much Zip, #5 Aunt Teree

#4 Fanfare makes her debut for Dickinson barn that is 12% winners with first time starters. Here at the Spa "The Mad Genius" is showing a 0 for 2 mark with firsters here at the Spa over the past five years. Filly is by Elusive Quality (12% first turf) out of a stakes winning Lear Fan mare, her first foal to race. #1 Too Much Zip stalked the early pace while four wide, bore out at the top of the stretch and had to steady in tight quarters earning the wire in sixth place finish, beaten 1 1/2 lengths for the top spot. Three of her previous four starts produced runner up finishes. he looks like a good fit here for Contessa barn and has a decent pedigree but price is likely going to be on the short side.

Live Longshots:

These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
